"Pump & dump" systems and horizontal ground loops are the most reasonable systems to install.  Wiht horizontal ground loops, tunneling equipment can be utilized instead of digging trenches through existing lawns and landscaping. Rules of thumb for space required for geothermal

Single pipe systems – require 500' to 700' tubing / ton of capacity

Trenched systems – require a 3&' x 80' trench / 1000 ft. of tubing / per ton of capacity
